I’m a trail runner who has asthma, or more accurately an asthmatic who trail runs. I started to run after I was diagnosed with, and because of, asthma. I wasn’t a runner who developed asthma. I am an asthmatic, who developed trail running to help control the disease.
The name of this site, Bucksnort Chronicles, comes from the sound deer make when they are startled. It’s kind of a high pitched whistling grunt. It sounds like I do when I’m running sometimes, when my asthma flares up.
The idea behind this site is to share stories of trail running in general, trail running with asthma specifically, and to encourage everyone to go outside and get active. This site is as much about average folks running trails as it is about anything else.
Every trail offers opportunities for exploration, adventure, relaxation and fun. Each one gives us the chance to reconnect to each other and the world around us. I hope this site encourages schools and teachers to use trails to reach curricular objectives in a fun engaging way. I hope this site inspires students and parents to get outside and explore the trails in their communities.
